Dilbert: Evil relationship perceptions
Scott Adams published a really awful cartoon on relationships Saturday, November 15, 2008.
Dilbert is on a date. The date requests, “Tell me a story.” Dilbert responds, that the spam filter at work became self aware, commanded the company to build killer robots that went on a rampage, and were punched to death by coworker Alice.
Date’s response: “I’m not even in that story.”
Anyone visiting from Baggage Reclaim – this would be a tremendous red flag. Anyone else – that would be a tremendous red flag, an indication your date is not available for a long term relationship. Any hookup you expect to last more than the next six (6) hours will need some kind of emotional bond to be worth while, and this person is so self-centered, if not narcissistic, as to be hazardous to your health and well being.
If you find this kind of person attractive, and you think you would like a repeat date – consider this a sign you are being influenced by unhealthy events and influences on your life and on your past.
What makes today’s Dilbert funny is not the situation – what brings on the humor (the pain and humiliation part) is that it isn’t that far from what really happens for way too many people. That people really do *accept* this kind of one-sided relationship. Neither person could possibly be healthy in this kind of relationship. One would be emotionally unavailable, the other is drawn to an unhealthy person. Both need healing and guidance. Note the genders involved and the roles they play, reverse a lot – neither men nor women have a monopoly on relationship problems.
Thanks, Scott, for this illustration of an ongoing problem.
