BTT – Hero (book)
Booking through Thursday asks about our heroes:
You should have seen this one coming … Who is your favorite Male lead character? And why?
Miles Vorkosigan. The hero of several novels by Lois McMaster Bujold, Miles overcomes handicaps, prejudice against handicap and against class, deals with unrequited love and (through two or more novels) a clumsy courtship. He keeps tripping into muck and pulling out roses. He suffers from deep funks, sometimes emerging on his own, other times rescued by friends. He befriends the widest array of characters. Miles is likeable, outrageous, and responsible. Intensely honorable and loyal, compassionate and disciplined.
I also like Jethri, of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller’s Balance of Trade. Jethri crosses culture and language barriers to find respect and acceptance denied him by his mother’s anger and his father’s early death. This poised young man’s basic honesty and respect open doors and move worlds.
True, Miles is impressive and I rather like him, but I really like his dad.
